Seminara: the portals. Strait Area

Homepage

Seminara was rebuilt a little further up after 1783 and throughout the nineteenth century. Are not documented the various stages of reconstruction. Some buildings were very beautiful and had until recently kept relatively recently. Among these, the Palazzo Delia, of which nothing remains. Of the remaining tracks I made a photographic record. But now I want to introduce a series of photographs on the doors or gates that are left. They are all old and quite beautiful. I list below a series without saying the names of current owners. Some are still inhabited houses, some abandoned houses and ruined. I choose ten.

Homepage

I've always found it very beautiful view of the Straits of Messina, known since the earliest antiquity to the tales of Homer in the Odyssey that Odysseus passes in these parts, torn between Scylla and Charybdis. True there are still treacherous currents for swimmers who recklessly venturing offshore. But we should not exaggerate the dangers. There are no sharks or giant polyps, or tides, which rise up to twelve feet, or high waves that can crush those who come to the shore. These are characteristics of the oceans. The Mediterranean looks Household and here we are exactly in the middle in the Strait in the Mediterranean. In this post I gather the views of the Strait which I think are more beautiful. I've had enough already in my store, but you have me time to find them. Meanwhile, watch this beautiful sunset that I will have taken to going Seminara Bagnara.

Start with seminars and area because it is easier to search, since I was born here and having to stay home. It 'a coincidence, not an infatuation for a given site. In fact I think just the comparison sites can discover new and interesting truths. So here the list of places and the title of the post in which are grouped one or more images, which can be replaced with better quality.

Seminara: St. Mark's Old

Homepage

The ruins of San Marco Vecchio said comes from the ancient ruined city. Until a few years ago had seen a "wolf pit", so called, but I do not know the reason, where there are human bones. Prior to the establishment of the cemetery, in the first half of the nineteenth century, the dead were buried in churches. The death records also indicate for each place of burial. The spaces were tight and it was obviously a mass grave and hence the findings in the bone near the ancient churches. It is estimated that such a finding indicates the existence of an adjacent church. There were over thirty. Only a few if you know the old location. San Marco was also a meeting place of parliament.

Seminar: Calvary

Homepage

There is a monument in Seminara said Calvary, for which I apologize for not being able to say anything. I suppose that is the earlier destruction of the ancient city and perhaps in the same place where it stood. Nearby are the ruins of Old San Marco and the old town was also extended in this place. Nothing I can say because there is no documentation that I know of. The building appears to me beautiful in its overview, but most of all in the details. It will give the following numbering the photos I took and I intend to complete the captions, if I can to get news from any source. I do not know what I can invent.

Seminara: the unfinished houses

Homepage

Seminara and are found in many homes in neighboring countries that are not finished and can be recognized in the later stage by the lack of plaster. Often we see only the skeleton of the building. Most are illegal buildings that have been seized. almost never an autonomous local police, but only because a neighbor who has decided to lodge a complaint ancient grudges. In these cases, firefighters or police is not involved because they objected to the omission of acts of office. However, if the perpetrators of the abuse can carry through the transaction without attracting attention or arrangement with his neighbor, then the abuse is carried out. For many years, is not common in any town planning and construction activity was like a cast. The abuses are unfortunately often in defiance of any aesthetic principle. The country is very ugly respect to construction of the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century. Another reason for the economic reason is not finished. Who starts building no longer has the money to continue and stops at a certain stage, or the first floor. It is hoped that the children will finish the other plans and complete the work.

Seminara: new homes

Homepage

Fortunately, next to a prevailing neglect of the country there are signs of vitality building. In the recent passing of the new banner of unauthorized constructions fate wild have neglected entirely the sense of beauty that must have been remarkable in seminars before 1783, of which you had the memory in the nineteenth Seminara, not entirely erased after the earthquake of 1908. Now seems to notice that those who build a new house from scratch intends to comply with any aesthetic standard.

1. New house built in the last year.

The place where once was the new house that you see in the corner and that was built last year had been flattened by a bomb that had fallen over, centering it in full. I was not born yet, but my parents lived next door, fortunately remained unharmed. Seminara had little damage from the war in what has been the passageway. We have stayed in Germany for a short time, being then replaced by the Allies chasing them.

Seminar: The ruined houses

Homepage

Seminara In the fifties, there were about seven villages with its inhabitants. Remember that each house was inhabited. There were also those who lived in the bass. The fact that settlement meant more attention from around the country. Now the image of decay and neglect spoils the view of the visitor. The population is now of little more than three thousand inhabitants and the capital has a higher degradation than the surroundings. The contracting that follow do not lack good will, but the decline has deep roots. The village has seen many homes abandoned and left to go to complete ruin. Some are uninhabited, but at least they are treated by emigrants returning in the summer. Unfortunately, in recent times these houses are targeted by thieves who come with trucks at night and take away the furniture, but no see anything or notice anything.

The phenomenon of the houses in ruins could convert to a revival in construction activity if they found buyers willing to live there at prices far lower than those at nearby Palma, where gather people moving from neighboring countries,

1 . Abandoned house.

The photo was taken in the evening. The people you see returns from a funeral in which the rain had fallen. Funerals are often and see the participation of the entire population of the country, so it may be that the only moment of sociality are the frequent funerals.

2. Home or other image of the same.

Sant'Anna di Seminara: Miscellaneous pictures

Homepage

Sant'Anna di Seminara Seminara is a fraction of that is about four kilometers from the capital. Counts a few hundred inhabitants. There people live peaceful and quiet. Counts a few hundred inhabitants. It is located on the main road starting at seminars throughout Sant'Anna and after a few kilometers to reach Melicuccà, where we also took pictures to create networks. This proximity and relative remoteness from Melicuccà Seminara triggers occasionally divisive six Sant'Annesi purposes: to go off by seminars with Melicuccà. I found the Central State Archive in Rome, a document dating back to early last century. I do not remember now get the facts. But when I gave the news of what I had found in Rome were again santannesi galvanized. Then the Prefect to the Minister concluded his report by saying that it was "the face of the party," not a serious administrative reasons, which you probably had to be Ceramida, once within the territory of Seminara and now part of Bagnara. The most obvious separation, developed by the seventeenth century, was one of the ancient hamlet of Palmi, who along with Anne and Barritteri, still belonging to the same aggregate administrative, and other two houses are still existent today (Pesola and Sant 'Opal) constitute a single territorial-administrative complex which today re-convert and expand. I am not having the same knowledge of the places I'll give this town of Seminara a listing of miscellaneous images, reserving a better partition as they acquire better information sites. Follow the same organizational principle for the nearby towns by taking a wildfire.

1. New church.

The construction is recent. Next time I will tell the story of Father Michael Bagalà and what can be quoted, I'll know.

2. Square and square.

Sant'Anna not have a Bar The people gather to chat in front of the courtyard of this church or in another square later in will give you the photos I shot well, but I have not ready to time.

Seminara: archaeological

Homepage

Seminara of the first 1783 had to be relatively rich in works of art. In the past, during the sixteenth and the seventeenth century, it had to be accumulated some wealth as a result of production of silk, a valuable product in Seminara was one of the main towns in Calabria. The seminary has been weaving silk was necessary because a special privilege, which had only Catanzaro in Calabria. For the rest of the thirst traveled to Naples, where the book of the freshmen silk contains a list of all existing silk merchants in the kingdom. Among these there were Seminara. The list will be given elsewhere. Here we have just identified a major source of that wealth which made possible the artistic treatment of seminars prior to 1783, when the terrible scourge gave a death blow to what had been the principal city of the plain as in the sixteenth century across the Plains today that Joy was the first of workshops like this before that he dettaPiana of San Martino, for the location of this last country the exact geographic center of the Plain.

After the destruction of 1783, the new seminary was rebuilt a short distance away, in the highest position, going up to Mount St. Elias. All that was left was used what they could. The walls have disappeared altogether, except for a cigarette butt left in San Antonio, at the entrance of one of the city gates. This section called "finds" all art objects or evidence that can be traced back to the old seminary without being able to give an indication of where they were documented and exactly what they represent. The churches rebuilt or survivors have become collection centers unaa of these findings and findings of each will be open special photographic section.

But here are grouped all the objects that you have knowledge and of unknown provenance. Since little or no documentation I do not dare to assignments of any kind. Of course, if I have reliable information to back this in the captions to the photos, correcting and supplementing each time that seem appropriate. Since it is not a printed publication is possible at any time a new and better drafting of texts, to which everyone who is able may cooperate.
